Why We Go
The Feast of the Transfiguration: bonfires, bread and boys singing hoya hoye.
After church services, neighbours tie bundles of sticks into a chibo and set it alight, singing and dancing around the flames in a celebration similar to Meskel.
Groups of boys go from house to house singing hoya hoye and receiving gifts of bread in return, a joyful and very local celebration of community.
Highlights
- Chibo bonfires lit in every neighbourhood
- Boys singing hoya hoye from door to door
- Special bread baked for the occasion
- Church services across the country
