Why We Go

Run 10 km at 2,400 metres with tens of thousands of Ethiopians each November.

Haile Gebrselassie, Peter Middlebrook and Abi Masefield conceived the race after the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and its first edition in 2001 attracted 10,000 runners. It has since grown to tens of thousands of participants, with a 5 km women-only race as well.

Elite athletes such as Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba have raced here, but for most participants the altitude and atmosphere are the real challenge. We can arrange registration and combine the run with a tour.

Highlights

  • The international 10 km road race
  • A sea of runners in the same coloured T-shirt
  • Music, dancing and celebration along the route
  • A chance to spot Ethiopia’s future champions
