Weather and Road Conditions
Ethiopia’s climate varies by region. Many destinations are warm and sunny during the day, while highland areas can become cool in the evenings and early mornings.
Some roads, particularly in remote regions, are unpaved and may be rough. Our experienced drivers and well-maintained vehicles are equipped to provide a safe and comfortable journey.
Respect Local Communities
Many of the places you will visit are home to unique cultures and traditions that have been preserved for generations.
We kindly ask all travelers to:

If you would like to support local communities, please consult your guide first. We recommend contributing through appropriate items such as school supplies or essential household goods rather than distributing gifts directly.
Photography
Ethiopia offers exceptional photography opportunities. Please remember:
- Always ask permission before photographing individuals.
- Photography is prohibited at certain government buildings, military facilities, airports, and security installations.
- Your guide will advise you whenever photography restrictions apply.
Drone Cameras and Binoculars
Drone cameras are not permitted to enter Ethiopia without prior government authorization. Any traveler bringing a drone may have it temporarily confiscated by customs until the appropriate permits are presented.
Professional filming equipment and, in some cases, binoculars may also require customs clearance.
If you intend to bring any specialized equipment, please notify us before your departure so we can advise you on the necessary procedures.
Domestic Flights
Ethiopian Airlines operates regular daily flights to most tourist destinations across Ethiopia.
If your international and domestic flights are booked on separate tickets, please note the following upon arrival in Addis Ababa:
- Collect your checked luggage.
- Complete immigration and customs procedures.
- Proceed to the domestic terminal.
- Re-check your luggage for your domestic flight.
Failure to collect and re-check your luggage may result in baggage delays.
Domestic flights may occasionally be delayed or cancelled due to weather or operational reasons. Should this occur, our team will assist you with alternative arrangements whenever possible.
Cash and Payment Methods
Credit cards are accepted at many hotels and larger businesses in Addis Ababa. However, cash remains the preferred payment method in many parts of Ethiopia, particularly in smaller towns and rural areas.
We recommend carrying sufficient cash during your trip. US Dollars and Euros can be exchanged at authorized banks and licensed exchange offices.
Health and Safety
Your health and safety are our highest priorities.
We recommend:
- Purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and trip interruptions.
- Bringing any prescription medications you may require.
- Carrying basic medicines for headaches, stomach upset, or motion sickness.

Travelers arriving from countries where Yellow Fever is present will be required to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate. Please check the latest entry requirements before departure.
Altitude Awareness
Several destinations in Ethiopia, including Addis Ababa, Lalibela, and the Simien Mountains, are located at high elevations.
During your first day, you may experience mild altitude-related symptoms such as:
