Why We Go
Ethiopia’s tropical west, with the great migration of the white-eared kob.
Gambela is Ethiopia’s true tropical zone, a land of tall Sudanese grass, wetlands and rivers. Gambella National Park is home to elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, hippo, Nile crocodile and rare antelopes such as the Nile lechwe, and hosts one of Africa’s largest mammal migrations when vast herds of white-eared kob move across the plains.
Remote and with limited infrastructure, Gambela is best visited as a tailor-made expedition for adventurous travellers.
Highlights
- The seasonal migration of the white-eared kob
- Nile lechwe, buffalo, elephant and hippo
- Shoebill and other wetland birds
- Anuak and Nuer communities along the Baro River
