Why We Go
Pastoralists of the dry plains near Lake Chew Bahir, with striking black headscarves.
The Arbore are pastoralists for whom cattle are the measure of wealth and status. Music and dance are central to community life, believed to bring harmony and prosperity.
Women wear layered bead necklaces and earrings, and young girls often cover their heads with black cloth against the strong sun. A visit offers insight into one of the Omo’s smaller and less-visited communities.
Highlights
- Colourful necklaces and black head coverings
- Ceremonial songs and dances
- Cattle camps on the dry plains
- An easy stop between Konso and Turmi
