Lalibela named among the world’s top five must-visit UNESCO sites
Euronews has listed the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela among five World Heritage Sites every traveller should see.

The rock-hewn churches of Lalibela have been recognised by Euronews as one of the top five must-visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites, based on recommendations from some of the world’s most experienced travellers.
Carved directly from solid volcanic rock more than 800 years ago, the eleven monolithic churches, connected by tunnels and passageways, remain one of the great engineering achievements of the medieval world. Often called the “New Jerusalem”, Lalibela continues to draw pilgrims, historians, photographers and travellers from across the globe.
What sets Lalibela apart is that it is still alive. The churches remain active places of worship, offering visitors a rare chance to experience centuries-old spiritual traditions in the setting for which they were created.
This international recognition highlights Lalibela’s place among the world’s most treasured heritage sites. As a company founded by a Lalibela-born guide, we could not be prouder, and we would love to show it to you.
