Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera, the capital of Ethiopia's Afar Region. Upon arrival at Semera Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our experienced team, including skilled 4WD drivers, a professional cook, local guides, and an official tour leader from the Tourism Authority. A police escort will accompany the expedition, and all camping equipment will be prepared before departure.

After breakfast, begin the scenic drive across the dramatic Afar Desert toward Ert Ale Volcano. Upon arrival, continue to the camping area located on the rim of the caldera. In the late afternoon, at around 5:30 PM, start the approximately one-hour hike to the summit.

Although the famous lava lake is currently inactive, Ert Ale remains one of the world's most fascinating shield volcanoes. From the summit, enjoy breathtaking views of the volcanic crater, rugged lava fields, and the unique geological landscape created by centuries of volcanic activity. After spending time exploring and taking photographs, return to the campsite at around 8:00 PM.
