Cradle of Humanity

Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of humankind. World-famous discoveries like “Lucy” (3.2 million years old) and “Ardi” (4.4 million years old) were found here, offering deep insight into our shared human origins.

Ancient Civilization

Long before Ancient Greece or Rome, Ethiopia was known to the world. Ancient Egyptians referred to it as the Land of Punt, and trade routes once connected Ethiopia to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The ancient city of Axum was the center of a powerful empire with its own written language, coinage, and international influence.

The Churches of Lalibela

Visit Lalibela, often called the “New Jerusalem.” Built in the 12th century by King Lalibela, this holy city is home to 11 rock-hewn churches, carved entirely from red volcanic rock. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most remarkable religious landmarks.

Early Christianity Adoption

In 340 A.D., Ethiopia became one of the earliest Christian nations under King Ezana. The country also welcomed the first followers of Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century, making it a historic symbol of religious tolerance.

Heroes of Modern Ethiopia

Ethiopia is the only African country to successfully resist colonization. In 1896, Emperor Menelik II defeated the Italian army at the Battle of Adwa, preserving the nation’s independence. Later, Emperor Haile Selassie led Ethiopia through global diplomacy and modernization until 1974.

The Imperial Legacy

In the 17th century, Emperor Fasilidas made Gondar the new capital — turning it into a center of religion, art, and architecture. Today, its castles and churches are major historical attractions.
