Your guide will pick you up in the morning from your hotel in Addis Ababa for a drive south along the Butajira Road. The first stop is Adadi Mariam, a 12th-century rock-hewn church believed to be linked to King Lalibela. Still in active use, the church is carved out of volcanic rock and surrounded by traditional villages. After exploring the church and learning about its history and religious significance, continue on to the Tiya archaeological site.

Tiya is home to over 40 carved stele, some bearing mysterious symbols and swords, thought to mark the graves of warriors or tribal leaders. Your guide will share the stories and theories behind these fascinating monuments. After your visit, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Addis Ababa. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel in the late afternoon.
