Chebera Churchura National Park

CCNP is located on the western side of the central Omo-Gibe basin, in between Dawro zone and Konta Special Woreda of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State of Ethiopia.

Chebera Churchura National Park is a lush and remote wildlife haven in southwestern Ethiopia, located in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR). Covering around 1,250 square kilometers, the park is known for its dense forests, rivers, and waterfalls, a rare contrast to Ethiopia’s more arid landscapes. It is especially famous for its large population of African elephants, making it one of the country’s key elephant conservation areas.

The park also supports a wide range of wildlife, including lions, leopards, buffalo, hippos, and various primates. Birdlife is abundant, attracting birdwatchers from around the world. With its untouched ecosystems and the presence of local ethnic communities like the Dawro and Kontta, Chebera Churchura offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.
