The Ari tribe is a small tribe that lives in the southwest region of the Omo Valley. They have ancestral and cultural associations with other Omotic-speaking groups and perform many ritual dances while singing. The Mursi and Banna peoples are their neighboring tribes. Ari people are primarily agriculturalists, growing crops such as coffee, maize, and bananas, and also raise livestock. They believe that singing and dancing during rituals and ceremonies brings fertility to the land and peace within the community. Ari women often wear colorful clothes and jewelry made from beads and metal, and are known for their traditional pottery and weaving skills. Men usually wear wraps and may carry tools or weapons used for farming and protection. Body painting is done using natural materials, especially during festivals and important events. Traditional dancing is an important part of their celebrations, and wealth is measured by both land and livestock ownership.
