Itinerary
Upon your arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, you will be welcomed by Extraordinary Ethiopia Tours. Whether your flight arrives in the morning or evening, our team will be ready to assist. For morning arrivals, your tour can begin after hotel check-in; otherwise, your adventure starts the following day.
Your Ethiopian journey begins with a guided city tour of Addis Ababa. After settling into your hotel, drive up to the summit of Mount Entoto to enjoy sweeping views of the capital. Descend to visit the National Museum, home to the famous fossil of "Lucy" and a wide range of historical artifacts. Continue to the Holy Trinity Cathedral, an important religious and historical site built during World War II. Next, explore the Ethnographic Museum, once the palace of Emperor Haile Selassie, offering deep insights into Ethiopia's cultural diversity. End your day at Merkato, the largest open-air market in East Africa, where the vibrant energy of Addis comes to life.
After breakfast, you’ll transfer to the airport for a domestic flight to Jimma. Upon arrival, embark on a scenic drive to Bonga, located 125 km away in the Kaffa region—widely regarded as the birthplace of Arabica coffee. In Bonga, visit a traditional Kaffa house to gain insights into the local culture and history tied to coffee. After lunch, take a short excursion to explore the Adiyo Waterfalls, the healing Gora Hot Springs, and the natural beauty of Ellelo and Dadiben. The day concludes with dinner and a restful night at a local guest house.
Begin the day with an early morning trek to the historic Mankira Forest, believed to be the original site where Coffea Arabica was first discovered growing wild. Along the way, you’ll visit the ancient Adaracha Medhane Alem Church and marvel at the naturally formed Gurguto Bridge, offering a perfect blend of culture and nature. The trek not only brings you closer to coffee’s roots but also reveals the biodiversity of the Ethiopian highlands. Return to Bonga for a relaxing evening and traditional dinner.
After breakfast, drive south to Bebeka, passing through the town of Mizan Tefari. Upon arrival, settle into your guesthouse or campsite and enjoy lunch before embarking on a guided tour of the famous Bebeka Coffee Plantation. Covering over 6,000 hectares, this is the largest and oldest coffee plantation in Ethiopia. Learn about its historical significance and modern operations, including its cultivation of Arabica coffee for export. The serene surroundings and rich greenery provide an immersive and educational experience.
Spend the day deepening your understanding of Ethiopia’s coffee heritage at the Bebeka Plantation. Today’s hands-on experience will take you through the entire coffee journey—from planting seedlings and nurturing trees to harvesting and drying the beans. You’ll witness traditional and modern processing techniques, meet workers who’ve dedicated their lives to coffee, and of course, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of Ethiopian Arabica right on the plantation grounds. This is an immersive day that brings the spirit of Ethiopian coffee to life.
In the morning, depart Bebeka and return to Jimma for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, take time for some last-minute souvenir shopping or optional sightseeing. In the evening, attend a lively farewell dinner featuring a traditional buffet of Ethiopian dishes, regional music and dance performances, and a ceremonial coffee experience that showcases the cultural importance of coffee in Ethiopian society. After dinner, you’ll be transferred to Bole International Airport for your outbound flight, marking the end of your unforgettable coffee journey.
