Itinerary
You’ll be greeted by Extraordinary Ethiopia Tours upon arrival at Bole International Airport, regardless of arrival time. Morning arrivals may begin touring immediately, while afternoon/evening arrivals will start the next day.
Upon arrival in Addis Ababa (either before or after midnight), you will be transferred to your hotel located in the heart of the city. Use the day to relax and prepare for your southern adventure.
Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka via Ethiopian Airlines. After check-in at your lodge, spend the afternoon at your leisure or choose to visit the South Omo Research Center Museum, which houses exhibits on the many tribes of the Omo Valley and their customs.
After breakfast, drive through Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe, known worldwide for their striking body art and large lip plates worn by women. Continue south to Turmi, home of the Hamer people, stopping en route at the Dimeka market (open Tuesdays and Saturdays), one of the most colorful gatherings of Omo tribes including the Benna, Tsemai, and Ari. In the evening, enjoy the Evangadi traditional dance—a Hamer courtship ritual accompanied by rhythmic drumming.
Today is dedicated to cultural immersion. In the morning, take a day trip to Omorate to meet the Dassenech people, crossing the Omo River by dugout canoe to visit their villages. Alternatively, visit the Karo tribe—known for their body painting and ceremonial rituals—at their cliffside villages in Murulle, Kolcho, or Dus. These tribes are among the most visually striking and are deeply connected to the Omo River ecosystem.
After breakfast, drive to Jinka Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Enjoy lunch in the capital and spend the afternoon shopping for souvenirs or relaxing. In the evening, attend a farewell cultural dinner, featuring live traditional music, dances from across Ethiopia’s ethnic groups, and a traditional coffee ceremony. After dinner, transfer to the airport for your international departure.
