Itinerary
Extraordinary Ethiopia Tours welcomes all guests arriving at Bole International Airport. Morning arrivals may begin sightseeing the same day, while afternoon or evening arrivals will begin the tour the following day.
Upon arrival at Goba Airport on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET175, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to Dinsho, the gateway to Bale Mountains National Park. You’ll begin your adventure with a short hike around Dinsho, a prime area for spotting endemic wildlife. Look out for mountain nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, and warthogs as well as endemic birds like the Abyssinian catbird, blue-winged goose, and thick-billed raven. This gentle introduction to the park sets the stage for a deeper exploration of Bale’s highlands in the days to come.
After breakfast, you’ll drive to the Sanetti Plateau, one of the highest all-weather roads in Africa. At dawn, you may witness the Ethiopian wolf, the world’s rarest canid, hunting across the frosty alpine meadows. The plateau is rich in endemic rodent species, particularly the giant molerat, a key prey for the wolves. Continuing across the plateau, you'll ascend Tulu Dimtu—the highest point in the park at 4,377 meters—for sweeping views of the highlands. Descending to the southern escarpment, you’ll reach Rira village, where you can enjoy local refreshments or take a short guided walk through the Harenna Forest. This bamboo-filled canyon features two hidden waterfalls and is a great place to spot colobus monkeys, Bale monkeys, and a wide range of birdlife.
On your final day, take a short drive to the Gushuralle Peak Trail, a serene route through thick bamboo forests leading to panoramic views over the Harenna escarpment. The 2–3 hour trail offers another opportunity to spot wildlife such as giant forest hogs, Menelik’s bushbucks, warthogs, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. After the hike, return to Goba for your transfer to the airport and flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, you will be dropped at your hotel or transferred to the international terminal for your onward journey.
