Itinerary
Extraordinary Ethiopia Tours will meet all clients arriving at the airport regardless of arrival time. For morning flight arrivals, you may begin your tour after checking into your hotel. For afternoon or evening arrivals, the tour begins the following day.
Take a morning flight to Lalibela, located in the highlands of northern Ethiopia. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at your lodge before beginning your guided exploration of the first group of Lalibela’s rock-hewn churches. These include Bete Medhane Alem, the largest monolithic church in the world, and others such as Bete Maryam, Bete Meskel, Bete Denagil, and Debre Sina with Golgotha. You’ll also visit Bete Giyorgis (St. George), the most iconic and isolated church, famous for its unique cross-shaped design. The day ends with a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, followed by dinner at Kana Restaurant.
After breakfast, take a scenic morning hike to Mount Asheton, where you’ll visit the Asheton Maryam Monastery, known for its altitude, history, and panoramic views of Lalibela. Return to town for lunch at Maed Restaurant, then embark on an afternoon drive through the Ethiopian highlands to visit Yemrehanna Kristos Church. Set inside a cave, this beautifully preserved 11th-century structure predates the Lalibela churches and offers a quiet, spiritual atmosphere. Dinner will be enjoyed at the famous Ben Abeba Restaurant, known for its stunning cliffside views and innovative architecture.
Start your final day with a visit to the second group of churches, including Bete Gabriel-Rufael, Bete Amanuel, Bete Mercurios, and Aba Libanos—each with distinct designs and historical significance. After the visit, return to your lodge to check out and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, you can connect to your international flight or choose to extend your stay.
