Itinerary
Extraordinary Ethiopia Tours warmly welcomes all guests arriving at Bole International Airport. Morning arrivals may begin sightseeing the same day; otherwise, your journey will begin the following morning. Airport pickup and hotel transfers are arranged for all travelers, regardless of arrival time.
After breakfast, depart from Addis Ababa by private vehicle and journey southeast through the Ethiopian highlands to Bale Mountains National Park. Upon arrival at the park headquarters in Dinsho, take a short introductory hike through the surrounding area—home to endemic mammals like the Mountain Nyala and Menelik’s Bushbuck, as well as a variety of forest-dwelling birds. Enjoy the fresh highland air and start acclimatizing to the altitude as you settle into your lodge.
Begin the day with a scenic drive up to the Sanetti Plateau, the highest plateau in Africa, reaching elevations over 4,000 meters. This is one of the best places in the world to spot the endangered Ethiopian Wolf, Africa’s rarest canid. From there, continue to Tulu Dimtu, Ethiopia’s second-highest peak, offering expansive views over the surrounding highlands. In the afternoon, descend into the Harenna Forest, the largest cloud forest in Ethiopia and a biodiversity hotspot. Enjoy a peaceful walk along the Gushuralle Peak Trail, where you may encounter forest monkeys, rare birds, and medicinal plants used by local communities.
After breakfast, begin the drive back to Addis Ababa, taking time to enjoy the scenery along the way. In the evening, you’ll attend a traditional Ethiopian dinner with live folkloric dance performances from various regions of the country. Sample national dishes, enjoy the Ethiopian coffee ceremony, and celebrate the end of your highland adventure. Later, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your international departure or onward travel.
