Itinerary
Extraordinary Ethiopia Tours welcomes all clients at any time of arrival. For morning arrivals, sightseeing may begin the same day after hotel check-in. For afternoon or evening arrivals, the tour begins the following day.
Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel for rest. Depending on your arrival time, explore parts of the capital or simply relax before the journey begins.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival and lunch, begin exploring the city’s iconic rock-hewn churches, considered by many to be the Eighth Wonder of the World. These extraordinary monolithic structures are grouped into three clusters and connected by underground passages and tunnels. You will begin with the first and third groups, discovering six breathtaking churches carved from solid rock.
Wake early to visit the final group of Lalibela churches. Afterward, return to the hotel for checkout and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, meet your driver and begin your journey south to the lakeside town of Ziway.
Begin the day with a visit to Abijatta-Shalla National Park, home to two contrasting lakes—deep, volcanic Lake Shalla and shallow, alkaline Lake Abijatta. Continue southward, stopping for lunch in Wolaita Sodo. Ascend into the Gughe Mountains to visit the Dorze people, renowned for their towering beehive-shaped homes and intricate weaving traditions. Continue onward to Arba Minch.
This morning, enjoy a boat excursion on Lake Chamo to see crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of birdlife. After the boat trip, continue driving to Jinka, passing through Weyto and Key Afar—two towns known for their colorful tribal markets (open on Sundays and Thursdays respectively).
After breakfast, travel through Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe, famous for their unique body adornments, including lip and ear plates. Afterward, continue your drive to Turmi, the homeland of the Hamer people. En route, stop at Dimeka Market (Tuesdays and Saturdays) to witness a vibrant blend of local cultures. In the evening, experience the traditional Evangadi night dance.
Depart Turmi for the Omo River villages of Murulle, Kolcho, and Dus to meet the Karo tribe—one of the smallest ethnic groups in the region, known for their elaborate body painting and ceremonial dress. Return to Jinka for lunch, then transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
Begin your final day with a visit to the Ethnographic Museum for insight into Ethiopia’s diverse cultures. Continue to Trinity Cathedral, the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie. Head to Entoto Hills for panoramic city views and a visit to the historic Maryam Church. En route, explore the Sheromeda traditional cloth market. After lunch at the historic Taitu Hotel, conclude your city tour with a visit to the bustling Mercato—Africa’s largest open-air market. End the day with a farewell dinner and live cultural performance before your transfer to the airport.
